The ageing press of wheel manufacturer Maxion Wheels kept overheating. Today, the press is running reliably again

The ageing press at wheel manufacturer Maxion Wheels kept overheating, and the maintenance team realized that it could not go on like this. Schuler Service took on the task of dismantling, repairing and reassembling the 4,000-ton press at the site in Ostrava, Czech Republic. Today, the press is running reliably again.

“When we dismantled the machine, we discovered more damage than originally expected,” says Maintenance Manager Zdeněk Hrabal. “The repair was necessary due to overheating, but the damage was greater than expected and posed a major challenge for both Schuler and Maxion. Thanks to Schuler’s expertise, however, we were able to get the situation under control and rectify it.”

Why did Maxion choose Schuler? “The efficiency of the repair process and the certainty of being able to complete it quickly and to a high standard were decisive factors,” explains Hrabal, who is responsible for maintenance and investments at the Maxion Wheels plant in the Czech Republic. “We appreciated Schuler’s professional approach and attention to detail. The seamless collaboration in a multilingual team of English, German and Slovak was remarkable.”

Hrabal is satisfied with the repair: “It was a smooth machine commissioning after such an extensive overhaul.” The service team consisted of Schuler experts from Slovakia, Germany and the UK. The components were repaired at the Schuler site in Erfurt and then assembled on site in Ostrava.

Maxion Wheels has more than 100 years of experience in the production of rims. Every year, 50 million units leave the 31 locations worldwide. Both steel and – since the turn of the millennium – aluminum wheels are produced in Ostrava. The plants, which employ a total of around 800 people, have a capacity of up to 7.5 million wheels per year. Customers include car manufacturers such as BMW, Daimler, Ford, PSA and Suzuki.
